The purpose of the course is to present and demonstrate the use of finite element based methods for the solution of problems involving plasticity. Particular attention will be devoted to finite strain conditions, with consideration being given to both rate independent and rate dependent situations.

Event 25: Semi-active Vibration Suppression - The Best from Active and Passive Technologies   CISM, Udine, Italy, 2007-10-01 09:00:00 - 2007-10-05 18:30:00

This course is intended to offer a comprehensive treatment of the theoretical as well as technological aspects of a wide class of semi-active systems applied to vibration damping and isolation, and a review of current and prospective applications in civil engineering, transportation, vibroacoustics, and precision engineering. The comparison between the semi-active devices and their passive and active counterpart will be stressed all along the course. Related issues such as energy harvesting will also be addressed during the course

Event 26: Advances of Soft Computing in Engineering   CISM, Udine, Italy, 2007-10-08 09:00:00 - 2007-10-12 18:00:00

The aim of the course is to present advances of well grounded mathematical foundations of SC, and formulation of hybrid FEM/SC computational systems to analyze various applications in structural engineering and mechanics of materials.The main attention is focused on the stochastic background of algorithms applied in search methods. Special attention is focused on applications of genetic algorithms and genetic programming as efficient tools for the analysis of complex, engineering mechanics problems.

The aim of this workshop is to bring together porous media modelers and experimentalists from both geosciences and industry, to provide a forum for exchanging ideas and expertise for the improvement of porous media models, and to identify challenges in the modeling of industrial porous media

The event focuses on the presentation and discussion of innovative computational technologies dealing with all aspects of computational processes. Objective of the meeting is also to promote cooperation and project proposals in the national and international framework programmes.
