Utrecht University
The Hydrogeology Group is part of the Department of Earth Sciences of Utrecht University (UTR). The Department provides top-level technical and scientific education geology, geophysics, (bio)geochemistry, and hydrogeology. Also, the research conducted by the Department is internationally respected by the scientific community as well as the business community. The Hydrogeology Group possesses a broad knowledge of, and considerable experience in, the mathematical modeling of geohydrological processes with emphasis on upscaling of nonlinear transport in porous media. The Group has actively participated in a number of EU-funded projects related to the safety assessment of hazardous waste disposal, scale-up theories, biodegradation, and remediation of contaminated groundwater. The Group is currently involved in a number of projects funded by EU and/or the Dutch government in the areas of effects of climate change on groundwater flow, transport of radionuclide in groundwater, in-situ (bio-)remediation of soil and groundwater, development of pore-scale network models. A useful and valuable feature of the research carried out at TU Delft is the integration of project research with the research of graduate students. The Group has just recently developed a new M.Sc Track in Environmental Hydrogeology.
