The principal activity of the Centre is the organisation of courses, schools, seminars, workshops, symposia, and conferences to present the state of the art of these sciences to researchers. Furthermore the Centre carries out research in the field of computational methods in applied sciences and informatics. CISM's activity is supported by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the Province, and the city of Udine, and by local public and industrial institutions, together with 15 other European member institutions (Universities, Academies). Further financial support comes from the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), and from UNESCO. The Centre has produced over 250 books, the collected lectures of CISM courses, together with selected monographs, and proceedings, for publication by Springer Verlag of Vienna and New York. The CISM team is recognised as world leader in the field of computational modelling of porous media mechanics, in particular also of concrete as multiphase material and fluid structure interaction.
