In the institute since 1986, prof. H. Deconinck is the Leader of VKI team. He obtained a PhD in Mechanical Engineering on CFD related subject in 1983 at VUB, Belgium. He acquired more than 30 years of experience in the development of CFD algorithms for compressible and incompressible flow: unstructured grid solvers, multidimensional upwind methods, multigrid, hybrid grid generation. He has been teaching CFD courses at VKI since 1986 and has been the promotor of 13 completed PhD thesis on CFD related subjects. He is the author and coauthor of more than 200 publication is the area of CFD. He coordinated 2 EU projects in the 4th and 5th framework, both related to advanced CFD algorithms for for compressible flow in aeronautics. He participated as leading scientist for VKI in several other EU 5th framework programs related to grid generation, flow modeling in electrochemical reactors and two phase flow modeling for safety of nuclear reactors.
